Welcome to Ann Milne’s School of Dance, offering numerous disciplines of dance for both recreational and competitive dancers, from ages 4 to adult. As director of the school, I strongly feel that each and every student deserves the best instruction available, so I am proud to offer the most qualified instructors in Owen Sound and the surrounding area.

Our focus is to build children’s integrity and self confidence in a fun and positive environment; where we instil mutual respect between students and teachers; where children learn self respect, discipline and commitment, all while encouraging physical fitness. Many of the friendships developed at the school foster healthy lifetime relationships.

If you are interested, we recommend you to come out to the school and talk directly to me or the other teachers.

About the Director:

Ann Milne started to dance at the age of 3. Her passion, drive, and determination led her to win 4 World titles, 12 Canadian titles, 13 Ontario titles plus the Australasian Championship. She has the honour of being the first Canadian to win the Juvenile World Highland Dance Championships which are held in Scotland each year.

In 1991, Canada hosted the only World Challenge inviting the top dancers worldwide to compete in both traditional highland dance and choreography. Ann Milne made Canada proud by winning the World Challenge and receiving the Air Canada Cup.

As a teacher, Ann has produced Canadian Champions, Ontario Champions, Scottish Champions and finalists in the Worlds, as well as having taught workshops across Canada, U.S.A., Japan, South America, and Australia. She produced the first team of highland dancers from Prince Edward Island to ever qualify for the Canadian Championships in highland dance. In addition, Ann chaired the Atlantic Canada Open Highland Dance Championships bringing the first Championship to the Island, and raising the standard of highland dance. She also trained and entered candidates in the Royal Academy of Dance ballet exams in which all received marks of distinction.

After being the Director of Dance at the College of Piping in P.E.I., she opened her first dance school in 1992. Ann relocated in Ontario 1994 and opened a dance school in Stouffville, Ontario.

Ann’s professional accomplishments include:

  • Youngest elected president of ScotDance Ontario
  • Executive member of ScotDance Canada
  • Member of the adjudicating panel for the Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing for 15 years
  • Artistic Director of the professional dance company Celtic Accent
  • Appointed an examiner for the British Association of Teachers of Dancing, qualifying Ann to examine amateur dancers and also professionals wishing to attain or upgrade their teaching status
  • Selected to sit on the Technical Advisory Committee of Canada for Highland Dancing
  • Representing Ontario on the National Choreography Committee of ScotDance Canada

Ann is the most qualified teacher in the Owen Sound area with her Fellowship Certificates in both Highland and Nationals.

With all of this being said, Ann is thrilled to be returning home to continue her career where it all started in the city that once welcomed people to Owen Sound with a sign, “The Home of Ann Milne World Highland Dance Champion.” Ann not only oversees the day-to-day operations of the (Owen Sound) school, she also teaches with a passion that is evident to everyone who has had the pleasure of meeting her.

Ann and her husband, Chris, are pleased to be raising their family in Owen Sound and exposing their children to the opportunities this community offers.
